Chips n Grapes Through the Ages

The origins of samantha and chips n grapes in general. starting from the beginning from. sorry for the long read lol

1. The “original” Samantha Rivers. It was a name that floated in my head since 2007 but had no use for it. Around the time when I had this name, I was working on creating my own character style to stick with it. Eventually this woman began to be use for many small projects back then and she was giving the name Samantha Rivers. She barely has any relation with the Samantha Rivers today or even Chips n Grapes but she did start the style and became heavily influenced in the appearance of the character Brydgett Helway.

2. Before Chips n Grapes became a series or even before she had a concrete name (her prototype name was Vanessa, based on one of my sisters),this was the real start of the cheater. Her creation happened from a last minute PowerPoint presentation that I thought would look a little nicer with some characters in it. Roxanne Miles was the first one drawn but I needed I second one as well. Due to short time, Samantha entire appearance is solely based on an exact inverse opposite of Roxanne in terms of clothes, skin, hair, ect. An actual series was never intended at that point.

3. About a year later, I decided that these two characters had potential of actually being a series compared to the other concepts I’ve been working on. With a little thought process, the series Chips n Grapes was born. The girls appearance was a little different and Samantha Rivers name was Jossie and this was her most thinnest version. In case nobody knew, Chips and Grapes is a term I made up meaning 2 opposites. The title refers to the show on how to opposites Samantha and Roxanne live with each other. Sure is more original then Samantha n Roxanne lol.

4. I wanted to take the series even further. Thus I took the chance and created my first attempt to make Youtube animations. I never had training so they weren’t stellar but It did help be get use to drawing the characters over and over again. This lasted for a good two years. The style was still in work but this was the start of using a really thin marker for the series as apposed to a pen.

5. A little later in the animation era, this is were Samantha and Roxanne finally got stabled appearance that sticks to even this day. Samantha was giving a wider and less ideal body features to add contrast to Roxanne and to be more relatable to woman. Lilly Wheeler and Abby Robinson were created at this time to give Chips n Grapes a more fresh approach to not only just focus on two characters.

6.This is around the end of the animation era and peaking my head to the DeviantART time line. I began focusing my series on digital art because there MUCH less time consuming and that what I actually major in. This was also the start of using a thicker sharpie maker to give the characters a broader outline. The series needed an antagonist so Brydgett Helway was created.

7. The current edition of Samantha. This version ditches the soft shading technique for a bolder brush to create a pop effect. The addition of out line strokes also gives the characters a cleaner edge. Chips and Grapes at this point leaves YouTube and pursues in digital artwork and comics on DeviantART.
